Histology

About Histology

Pathology is the assessment of changes in tissues and organs caused by disease. In histopathology thin sections of tissue samples are examined under the microscope. Our experienced histopathologists can thereby provide information about the extent and age of pathological changes and tissue damage.

Assessment of organ and tissue changes will also be important to determine the status / functioning of the various organs, whether the fish have decreased tolerance for handling and other stressors, and their capacity for healing injuries.

Our histopathology team are connected via the Aperio®digital histopathology technology, allowing the instant sharing of histopathological images and consulting other experts across our global network.

The quality of the histopathology reports depends on the quality of the submitted samples, the preparation in the laboratory and the experience of the histopathologists. For our advice on how to take samples, please see our ‘How to take histology samples’. Additionally, our experienced team are at your service and will advise on sampling if needed.
