Bacteriological examination involves culturing and identifying bacteria from fresh or frozen specimens. Unlike PCR, where one can only detect a specific pathogen using one specific test, a bacteriological examination may detect any bacteria growing under specified conditions in the laboratory. For identification, we use a combination of classical analysis and sequencing of parts of the bacterial genome. These sequences are compared with databases of known bacterial sequences for accurate species identification.
We offer analyses of both primary and secondary cultures. However, in order to get the most out of our bacteriology service, we recommend submitting fresh primary cultures rather than secondary cultures. Please don’t hesitate to contact us for sampling advice, or look at our sampling guide.
You can order our bacteriology service separately, or in combination with histology and /or PCR. Please contact us for more information and prices by telephone (21 62 49 80) or email (email@example.com).
Our Analyses (Bacteriology)
Pure cultures of fish pathogens and suspected fish pathogens proceed to the following analyses:
- Characterization by primary tests
- Sequencing and species identification by comparison with database sequences when needed for species identification
Antibiotic resistance assay can be performed on request.
Response time is dependent on the bacterial growth rate. We work to keep response time short, hence, a report will be issued as soon as analysis is complete.
Isolates of characterized fish bacterial pathogens, which are considered of importance for the case, are stored on behalf of our customers in our biobank for a minimum of 3 years.
You can order our bacteriology service separately, or in combination with histology and /or PCR.
Delivery of Bacteriology results
Delivery time is dependent on the bacterial growth rate. We strive for a short delivery time and report will be issued as soon as analysis goods available.
Send the samples by courier delivery to:
Fish Vet Group Norge AS

When samples and order forms arrive at our laboratory, a confirmation will be sent to you by email.
This is when our automatic tracking of your samples begins. This is part of our quality assurance and contribute to high quality sample handling and traceability during analysis.
